MozambiqueMZNMozambican Metical
Mozambique conducted a denomination in 2006: the old metical was replaced with a new one at a ratio of 1000:1, and prices from both eras still appear online. Mozambique has IBAN - the details look familiar. No sanctions against Russia. Russians send money to Mozambique to family and business partners.
The route, the receiving bank and the payout amount are agreed before payment.
The national currency is the metical (MZN), which is divided into 100 centavos. The name of the currency comes from the miscal — an ancient measure of gold weight used in trade on the East African coast. In 2006, the country underwent a denomination: 1000 old meticais were replaced with 1 new MZN, so in old sources amounts may differ by a factor of a thousand. Mozambique is located in southeastern Africa and has an extensive Indian Ocean coastline of about 2500 km. The main banking and business centers are Maputo, Matola, Beira, and Nampula; outside major cities there are significantly fewer bank branches, and cash plays a more important role. For bank transfers, IBAN format MZ is used; for international transfer, the bank's SWIFT/BIC is also required.
Mozambique has not imposed its own sanctions against Russia, however, any specific transfer depends on the recipient bank, correspondent chain, and standard AML/KYC checks. The official language is Portuguese, so bank details are formatted in Latin characters without additional transliteration. Mozambique operates in UTC+2 timezone and is 1 hour behind Moscow. ATM24 checks the available route in advance before confirming the request. International SWIFT transfer time is 2–5 business days. ATM24 commission is from 0.9%.
Cards are issued by major banks in the country, the acceptance network is developed in cities. You need the card number and cardholder name in Latin characters. Credit is made in meticais at the rate fixed in the request. Whether the card route works is checked in advance
A full IBAN is an uncommon convenience for Africa, the details are familiar. You will need the account number, the bank's SWIFT code, and the recipient's name. Portuguese is written in Latin characters, so the name is transferred from the passport. For a large amount, the bank may request the basis for payment
Cash disbursement where the country's banking network is concentrated. Main locations are Maputo and Matola, as well as Beira and Nampula. In remote areas there are few branches, and reaching them can take a long time. The available amount is confirmed when the request is submitted
For Mozambique you need an account number in IBAN format, the bank's SWIFT code, and the recipient's name in Latin characters - the details here are simpler than most neighbors in the region. The country has not imposed sanctions against Russia. Pay attention to amounts: due to the 2006 denomination, old and new figures in sources differ by a factor of a thousand, so ATM24 fixes the result in meticais in the request before payment.
